![]() The player character is invulnerable when a special attack is in effect. When holding down the attack button, the player moves at slower speed, and all on-screen items are automatically retrieved. In 2017, Degica Games localized the series, with the first game released on Microsoft Windows via Steam on June 16 as Castle of Shikigami. Mobile Light Force is known as Gunbird in Japan, and was not developed by Alfa System. When localized, publisher XS Games re-titled the game as a sequel to Mobile Light Force, but in reality the games are unrelated. The game was titled Shikigami no Shiro Evolution ( 式神の城 Evolution) for its revised version for Xbox, which was then ported to Windows as Shikigami no Shiro EX ( 式神の城 EX). It was originally released as an arcade game and later ported to the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Microsoft Windows. Castle of Shikigami ), released in North America and Europe under the title of Mobile Light Force 2 and in some PAL regions as MLF2 - Mobile Light Force 2, is a 2001 shoot 'em up developed by Alfa System and is the first game in the Shikigami no Shiro series. So I think I'll recommend the Japanese version of this game, and hope the story isn't actually something anyone is that invested in.Shikigami no Shiro ( 式神の城, lit. It's very anime, but it doesn't go full moé or have a bunch of fanservice, and has an even split of men and women for the characters.Īpparently the English release (on PS2?) has an infamously horrendous English dub, which is a shame and surely dampened the experience for a lot of players! I checked it out on Youtube, and it's sadly the type of terrible dub that isn't so bad it's funny, it's just bad. I'm also a fan of the character art for this one. But still, a very fun game that I recommend strongly to all fans of the genre. You better believe I save-scummed my way through those last few stages, ho-ly shi-et. This is the magical flying person variety of vertical shmup, and a bullet hell one at that. They're all actually pretty different from each other too, making it worthwhile to try out all of them. The game looks fantastic, has an awesome soundtrack, and gives you a whole bunch of different characters to work with - each with their own bullet pattern and special ability. (Was in the mood for a shoot-em-up, and the Japanese cover art for this piqued my curiosity.) But I was in for a very pleasant surprise with Shikigami no Shiro 2. I had no experience with the Castle Shikigami series before this one, and played this one purely on a whim. (played the Dreamcast version - Japan-only release) ![]()
